The project entailed design, fabrication and installation of 102m wide x 72m long modern warehouse structure complete with full length saflok roofing and cladding sheets. To maintain ambient environment, both roof and side cladding had special insulation sheets which met functional requirements and aesthetic appeal.

Challenges Faced

The building had several services, both electrical and mechanical. Since most of these were at roof level, client desired a solution that not only afforded passage of service lines, but gave the structure a modern look.

Based on machine layout, the rafters had to span 22.5m along the slope without any support. While various design options exist, they had to meet functional, economic and visual/aesthetic requirements.

Delivery of opal white polycarbonate sheets delayed as these were to be imported from the far East. This threatened successful delivery of the project as full enclosure of the building was on the critical path for all contractors.

Solutions Implemented

We elected to use castellated design of rafters. This allowed passage of services (pipes), spanned 22.5m without intermediate supports, supported design loads without deflection, was cost effective and gave the much desired aesthetic appeal.

To mitigate against delays caused by opal white sheets, we went out of our way to cover the areas using unpainted sheets. These were replaced as and when opal white sheets were delivered.

Client Feedback

At the end of the project, client was impressed by the quality of works undertaken by David Engineering (K) Ltd. To further cement this, captains of the industry did not hesitate to voice their satisfaction during the official opening of the new facility on 12th November 2025.
